Proof of Concept, Power, and Possibility
🎶 The Sound Collective 🎶
Sound Collective is the vocal ensemble of the Circle of Fifths, created for singers of all abilities to make music together in ways that are joyful, expressive, and deeply collaborative.
At its heart, Sound Collective is about belonging—and it is also about performance, artistry, and excellence. What makes the ensemble distinctive is not our commitment to performance, but the way we define and pursue excellence. Rather than asking people to conform to traditional expectations, we design the music, rehearsals, and performances around the musicians in the room. The result is music-making that is alive, authentic, deeply human, and full of joy.
While Sound Collective is described as a vocal ensemble, it is intentionally built to go far beyond sung words. Music here is created through sound, rhythm, movement, gesture, and shared expression. Some members participate as vocalists or singers; others contribute through clapping, stomping, movement, percussion, or other rhythmic and embodied forms of musical expression.
This is why we often refer to our vocalists as musicians. They are using their whole beings—body, voice, movement, presence, and soul—as instruments. Every sound matters, and every contribution is intentional, rehearsed, and essential to the ensemble.
Because the music is designed this way, our performances look and feel different from a typical choir—and that is entirely intentional. We love that they are vibrant, energetic, and unmistakably human, reflecting the real bodies, voices, and ways of communicating of the people on stage.
Sound Collective values:
Joy as a foundation for excellence
Belonging that fuels artistic growth
Performance shaped around people, not conformity
Multiple, equally valued ways of making music
Rehearsals are structured and purposeful, but they are also warm and fun—full of laughter, movement, connection, and shared accomplishment. Vocalists and musicians work toward common goals while celebrating one another’s presence and contributions.
Sound Collective welcomes vocalists, singers, and musicians who are non-speaking, neurodivergent, visually impaired, DeafBlind, or who have complex communication or support needs. No prior singing experience is required—only a willingness to show up, participate, and be part of a musical community rooted in vibrant authenticity.
Above all, Sound Collective is about making music together—with love, with intention, and with joy.
