Proof of Concept, Power, and Possibility

The Eddie Ray Band

The Eddie Ray Band shows what happens when passion for music, the need for friendship and community, unique talents, and a strong creative leader all come together to make music. Made up of musicians with and without disabilities, the band is all about heart, connection, collaboration, and joy!

It all started when a mother, Leah Rummel, needed support for her son Brandon. Brandon is a young man considered non-verbal, but has found his voice through music. Leah hired Phil Montfort, who is a musician, to work with Brandon to learn to sing or play. Phil worked with Brandon, helping him sing, using any method to communicate, including sign and the use of Brandon’s AAC device. Brandon’s roommate, Nathan, soon joined, with Ben and Will close behind, determining the best way to participate based on their unique differences. The guys started writing songs and learning to play instruments. They formed a band and named it the Eddie Ray Band. The band now has over 20 band members, mostly with disabilities. This is an inclusive band with big hearts.

As the Circle of Fifths house band, the Eddie Ray Band stands for what we believe in: that music belongs to everyone. When they play, it’s not just a show — it’s a statement that talent is everywhere, that great music doesn’t care about labels, and that every stage can feel like home.

The Eddie Ray Band isn’t the exception — they’re a glimpse of the future we’re building, where all kinds of musicianship are not just possible, but celebrated.
